“Hi I’m Andrew Cardno, Chief Technology Officer of VizExplorer. I’m here today to talk about Millennials and gaming. This is an important market because as their age increases, they become our main market. There’s a lot of wisdom out there in industry about what a gamer is and the common thread about gamers is that they’re older. We are mostly talking about someone in their 50s and 60s who has time, money and comes in for a gaming experience. Millennials are at the other end of that and possibly have less money and typically less time. Let’s talk about what I’ve seen in the industry that has worked with Millennials.
I think we need to adapt and learn about making this group of customers want to come to our business and enjoy their experience. What I’ve seen is Millennials love our electronic table games and to be more social and interactive when they’re with their groups of friends. When I walk the casino floor and I look at the numbers, I see our electronic table games leaping out at me, that’s really where our Millennials like to play. I also see quite a heavy group of Millennials on actual table games. However, that doesn’t mean that they’re not playing on the slot machines and going to migrate to other products. As we think about the gaming product that they want, it seems to be a game that’s more social in nature. They’re doing things in a way that you wouldn’t see in a typical slot machine. The challenge to the manufacturers is not to step back and ask the questions, ‘is this gaming machine really working, is it performing and how does win per unit per day compare to other win per unit per days?’ The challenge is to ask the manufacturer the question, ‘how do I design a game for the Millennials and is it working for that target demographic?’ Instead of a game being measured just on its performance relative to other games dominated by the main 50+ players, we are also looking at games and asking manufacturers to think about gaming products that appeal to the Millennials because they are the future of gaming. At VizExplorer, we’ve got fantastic tools for doing that. We give you insight into the games that people like, the market basket for understanding this Millennial group and access to the deep data and information we bring together. We collect detailed information about their gaming preferences, playing patterns and what they enjoy doing.
